At the foot of the majestic Rigi mountain, idyllically nestled between Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug, lies the district of Küssnacht, comprising the villages of Küssnacht, Immensee, Merlischachen and the hamlet of Haltikon. In the heart of Central Switzerland, not far from Lucerne, Zug and Zurich, Küssnacht is well connected by public transport and offers opportunities for navigation on both neighbouring lakes. It takes between 20 and 40 minutes to get to Küssnacht from these three major cities, and the airport is only one hour away. Küssnacht is one of the most attractive residential, shopping and recreational areas in Switzerland.

Education, Culture, Sport and Associations

Küssnacht offers a complete range of educational facilities, including kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, a high school, as well as special childcare services. Küssnacht offers a broad, varied multicultural programme, with everything from theatre performances, dancing and folklore to concerts and vernissages. Sports events organised by our sports clubs take place indoors, outdoors, in nature, on grass, in water, on ice and in the air. The young and young at heart can enjoy leisure activities with over 140 local clubs and associations – from A for archery to Z for zero-gravity.

Tourism and Gastronomy

This unique region is presented in the best light by HohlgassLand Tourismus. It produces printed material and organises cultural events and adventure experiences for both, tourists and visitors. During the summer months, it operates the mini-golf course and boat hire service in association with WAR shipyard.

RigiPlus AG works with partners, interest groups, the districts and municipalities to ensure that Rigi, which is known as the “Queen of the Mountains”, is recognised as a tourist destination. Allmig and Seebodenalp, well known as local recreation areas are perfect for hiking and biking, with impressive views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. The “Chugelbahnen” (ball track trail) on Seebodenalp is a new attraction for young and old alike that has only recently opened.

For those who are attracted to navigation, the Schifffahrtsgesellschaft Vierwaldstättersee operates scheduled services, tours and excursions on Lake Lucerne. And the Zugersee Schifffahrt AG organises adventure boat trips on Lake Zug.

Let yourself be pampered during your visit to Küssnacht. A wide variety of delicious Swiss food can be sampled in Küssnacht. In addition to the popular fish menus with freshly caught products from Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug, there are traditional and local delicacies to enjoy. Of course, you can also treat yourself to meals from sophisticated national and international cuisine.

Events

The Küssnacht carnival is the first highlight in the annual calendar of events. It is held a week earlier than anywhere else in Switzerland. Küssnacht celebrates the “Sennenchilbi” alpine fair every six years. Feldmusik Küssnacht’s legendary “Sommer- und Seenachtsfest” (summer lake festival) always takes place on the last weekend in July. The three-day festival rounds off the annual summer festival programme. The traditional “August-Markt” organised by the Marktplatz Küssnacht on the last Saturday in August is another flagship event for Küssnacht. In Autumn the “Küssnachter Chilbi” attracts visitors from near and far to the Rigi village on the second weekend in October. The world-famous “Küssnachter Klausjagen”, with over 1,500 participants, enthrals thousands of spectators every year.

Industry, Trade and Specialised Shops

The district of Küssnacht boasts an excellent infrastructure in the commercial and industrial centre Fänn. It is ideally located on the north-south axis in the heart of Central Switzerland, in the economically flourishing triangle that connects Lucerne, Zug and Zurich. International companies that are among the top performers in the field of new technologies (electronics, electroplating, computer circuit boards and plastics) have established themselves in Fänn alongside local businesses from Küssnacht and Immensee. Institutions such as the Marktplatz Küssnacht and the Meisterzunft Küssnacht represent the interests of companies and businesses to the outside world. The shops in the centre of Küssnacht form a shopping and experience zone for the entire region. A colourful mix of food, non-food and service outlets ensure the ultimate shopping experience. The central business locations and good traffic situation make Küssnacht an attractive shopping destination, which provides sufficient parking spaces for shoppers and guarantees convenient opening hours.
