Isabelle Kaiser (1866-1925) described Beckenried in her works as \u201cthe most beautiful village by the most beautiful lake.\u201d The people of Beckenried still call it this today: \u201cS\u2019scheescht\u00e4 Dorf am scheenscht\u00e4 See,\u201d translated as: \u201cThe most beautiful village by the most beautiful lake.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beckenried, uniquely located on Lake Lucerne with the nearby recreational area Klewenalp-Stockh\u00fctte just outside the door, is situated at 435 meters above sea level and has just over 3,700 inhabitants. Beckenried was the first place in the canton of Nidwalden to develop tourism, which began before 1850. The construction of the Klewenalp cable car came about in 1933 through private initiative. The poor accessibility of the mountain properties and alpine farms at that time was the starting point of the cable car idea. The initiators also had the tourism potential in mind. Excursion traffic and winter sports developed beyond expectations, and at regular intervals, the cable car facilities were expanded. The first cable car (1933) had 12 seats per cabin (which could not be fully occupied due to licensing reasons), the second (1936) had 20, the third (1955) already 40, and the fourth, which came into operation in 1972, could hold 80 people per cabin. In 1999, the Klewenalp cable car merged with the Emmetten-Stockh\u00fctte aerial cable car, forming today\u2019s Bergbahnen Beckenried-Emmetten AG.<\/p>\n<p>In summer, Beckenried is the starting point for unforgettable activities. Whether it\u2019s a boat trip on Lake Lucerne, a hike to the impressive Risleten Gorge and the dinosaur tracks left by the Iguanodontid dinosaurs that once lived in Beckenried, or a ride on the aerial cable car to Klewenalp, where varied hiking trails, bike routes, climbing gardens, mountain huts, barbecue spots, and playgrounds await \u2013 there\u2019s much to discover in Beckenried.<\/p>\n<p>Winter in Beckenried is mostly centered around the snow sports area of Klewenalp-Stockh\u00fctte. Around 70 interested individuals attended and gained insights into the event, which will place the canton of Nidwalden in the international spotlight with key locations in Beckenried and Emmetten.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hans Gallati, the chairman of the organizing committee, was pleased with the positive response and the great support shown for the event. \u201cThis is not something to be taken for granted,\u201d he emphasized, noting that, alongside the expected impressive images, the event will also bring some inconveniences for the residents. One major challenge will be the limited availability of parking spaces.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, the enthusiasm of the participants was palpable. Many of them are avid cyclists or regularly use their bikes and consider it a privilege that Switzerland\u2019s most prominent sporting event will pass right by their homes. The 7th stage to Emmetten and the mountain time trial to the Stockh\u00fctte promise an exciting finale for the 2025 Tour de Suisse.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The idea of integrating a mountain time trial from Beckenried to the Stockh\u00fctte came from Heinz Rutishauser, CEO of Beckenried-Emmetten AG cable cars. A passionate road and mountain biker himself, Rutishauser quickly convinced the organizers of the Tour de Suisse of the plan\u2019s feasibility.<\/p>\n<p>Now, this plan is becoming a reality. The 2025 Tour de Suisse will start on June 15 in K\u00fcssnacht and end with the 7th stage in Emmetten. The mountain time trial from Beckenried to the Stockh\u00fctte will be the highlight of the following day. A large public festival is planned for the weekend of June 21-22, 2025, around Beckenried and Emmetten, attracting not only cycling enthusiasts but also visitors from across the region.<\/p>\n<p>With this attractive route, the Tour de Suisse returns to Nidwalden after 12 years. The last time, Buochs served as the host, acting as both the starting and finishing point of a stage.<\/p>\n<p>The newly formed organizing committee for the Beckenried-Emmetten stages has already begun its work. Led by Heinz Rutishauser, the committee includes well-known local figures, such as the mayor of Emmetten, Anton Mathis, and three members who were already part of the successful 2013 event in Buochs.
